About Our Club

Worcester Shotokan Karate Club (WSKC) located in Worcester (UK) is run on a ‘non profit’ basis. Affiliated to the International Japan Karate-Association – United Kingdom (IJKA UK) we are dedicated to teaching the Japanese martial art of Shotokan karate.
IJKA – UK is affiliated to IJKA International.
All abilities, aged 12 to 50+ are welcome to join whether you are a beginner or a karateka returning after a break.
All classes are conducted in a safe and friendly environment by Sensei Steve Cameron, 4th Dan, IJKA, who holds DBS enhanced disclosure.
All our instructors hold DBS enhanced disclosure.
Low Class fees make Shotokan Karate affordable and accessible to many.

Class Times and Structure

Classes are split each night and structured towards the karateka’s ability.

Platinum Hall
7:00pm ~ 8:00pm » Beginners and intermediates (to 6th Kyu ~ green belt)
8:00pm ~ 9:00pm » Seniors (5th Kyu ~ blue belt and above)

Nunnery Wood
6:30pm ~ 7:30pm » Beginners and intermediates (to 6th Kyu ~ green belt)
7:30pm ~ 8:30pm » Seniors (5th Kyu ~ blue belt and above)

Any changes to our regular class schedules will always be communicated in advance in  ‘Recent Posts’ .
Note: Senior karateka may attend both sessions (at no extra cost) to benefit from extra training.
However, instruction in the first class will always be focused towards our beginners and intermediates.

Rest in peace Sensei

With very deep sadness and regret the IJKA would like to inform all its members that Kato Shihan 9th Dan IJKA World Chief Instructor sadly passed away on the morning of Thursday 16th April 2020.

An inspiration to so many karateka throughout his long life he will be sadly missed by the worldwide karate community.
It was his wish that everyone celebrate his life and not mourn his passing. Please raise a glass and remember all the training and good times we had together. OSS

The worldwide IJKA karate family sends deepest condolence to Hideko, Sakura, Ryota and Milena at this difficult time.

Memories of Kato Shihan

Kato Shihan visits Worcester

Worcester Shotokan Karate Club would like to thank Kato Shihan 9th Dan IJKA World Chief Instructor for a fabulous seminar held on Saturday 12th October at Nunnery Wood Sports Complex.

The club would like to thank all karateka that attended the seminar and enjoyed 4 hours of fabulous instruction with assistance from Milena Galabova 5th Dan and Paul Kotowski 6th Dan.

Congratulations to Frank Rhodes and Bob Duarte who were selected for Nidan gradings on the day and await the result from Kato Shihan.

The club looks forward to Kato Shihan’s next visit.

 

 

 

Shihan Kato 9th Dan in Worcester for IJKA Seminar

Worcester Shotokan Karate Club (WSKC) hosted a seminar with Hanshi Sadashige Kato 9th Dan,  IJKA World Chief Instructor. on Saturday 23rd March 2019.
The seminar was held in the Dance Studio at Nunnery Wood Sports Complex, WSKC’s honbu dojo.

Fabulous instruction by Shihan Kato 9th Dan and demonstrations by Milena Galabova 5th Dan.

The seminar was attended by karateka of all ranks from 7th Dan to beginners who came from England, Ireland and Scotland for the privilege of training under Shihan Kato.

Well deserved congratulations go to Maya Garbett, Iben Tromholt (West Midlands Shotokan Karate Academy) and Samantha Widdop (Blackpool and Wyre) who all passed their Shodan (1st Dan) grading under Sensei Kato 9th Dan IJKA World Chief Instructor.

Maya and Iben have been receiving invaluable extra tuition from Sensei Steve Cameron 4th Dan IJKA, Chief Instructor of Worcester Shotokan Karate Club, along with regular instruction from Sensei Kevin Belwood 3rd Dan IJKA, Chief Instructor of West Midlands Shotokan Karate Academy.

Samantha trains with Sensei Ron Belwood 7th Dan IJKA at his Blackpool and Wyre dojo.

Finally, huge congratulations to Alex Carroll from Aberdeen Shotokan Karate Club who passed his Rukodan (6th Dan) grading under Sensei Kato 9th Dan IJKA World Chief Instructor.

IJKA UK Winter seminar

The IJKA UK Winter Seminar took place at Worcester on 11th February 2023.

Keith Crighton Sensei 7th Dan IJKA took the seminar and his 50 years with Kato Shihan were evident in the quality of instruction given throughout the day.
Mind games with Kihon and Kumite routines were excellent, as was the focus on the ‘Shodan’ katas, Bassai Dai and Junro Shodan.

Congratulations to James Spry and Chris Adams of the Worcester Dojo for successfully reaching the first step, Shodan, on the day.

Kato Shihan’s spirit was with us in the dojo.

Road Closure Notice

From Monday 25th July for 12 days, Church Road, Crowle will be closed for highways work near the Platinum Hall.

Access to the Platinum Hall will still be possible via Church Road but only from exiting the A422 at Broughton Hackett.

The club will be open and classes will not be affected during this period.

We look forward to seeing you all for full on Shotokan Karate.
